in BABY CARE

Traveling with a small baby isn’t easy. There’s so much that needs to be taken care of.

From spare clothes to diaper bags, a parent has to make space for all the luggage. But the hardest thing to manage is taking the stroller everywhere.

The only place to store a stroller during traveling is the car trunk, but when the car start moving, the stroller starts sliding. This can lead to damage to the stroller, and as strollers are pretty pricey, parents try their best to avoid any breakage.

Parents want what’s best for their child: the best clothes, the best stroller for Disney, the most comfortable baby carriers, etc. As you stare at the baby stroller that you have to carry along the car ride, how to keep stroller from sliding in trunk? Keep on reading to find the answer!

Is It Safe to Drive With Baby’s Stroller?

Yes, it’s safe to drive with a stroller in the car if it’s secured and fastened properly. Now let’s say that your stroller is unfastened, sitting in the trunk of the car, and you’re driving at a speed of 70 km/h. Now, suddenly, you notice a bump on the road and you have to press on the brakes.

This can lead to the free stroller in the trunk causing serious damage to the inside of the trunk. Apart from the car, it will also lead to the stroller breaking. And as a stroller is a pretty big purchase, this can lead to financial loss in more than one way.

And it isn’t just financial loss. If the stroller is sitting in the back seat, unfastened, and the same thing happens, there’s a chance someone can get seriously hurt. The stroller is a big and heavy device, and if it strikes someone, that can be extremely damaging.

How To Keep Stroller from Sliding in Trunk?

Are you wondering how to store strollers in cars? To avoid any serious damage to the car, the trunk, and you and your baby, you have to learn how to fasten a stroller in the trunk of the car.

There any many different techniques and pieces of equipment you can use for the job, like a stroller trunk strap or a stroller holder for trunk. From these, you have to pick which one suits you and your vehicle the best.

The first step of putting your stroller in the trunk should be making sure it’s folded properly and tightly. Tie up any loose ends and make sure it’s as compact as it can be. Then use your preferred equipment to tie the stroller up. The following is a list of all the gear you can use:

#1 Bungee Cord

Bungee cord as stroller trunk strap to secure stroller in the car – How to keep stroller from sliding in trunk – Baby Journey parenting blog
A bungee cord is the most used item to secure a stroller in the trunk.

If you have a larger car, like an SUV or a station wagon, using bungee cords can be a big benefit. You can use them to attach the stroller to the back of your seat by wrapping the cord around the backseat headrest.

This method is best if your car has the space to hold the stroller vertically. Storing it vertically also gives the parent space to store other things as well, as it’s space-efficient and helps avoid any clutter.

Another alternative to using these hooks is using properly rated ropes. But properly rated ropes can be harder to navigate through especially if you haven’t used them beforehand and are inexperienced in the matter. But if you know how to knot properly, you’re good to go!

#2 Ratchet Straps

Ratchet straps as good stroller holder for trunk to tie down stroller in trunk – How to keep stroller from sliding in trunk – Baby Journey parenting blog
Ratchet straps are efficient for tying your stroller down in the car.

Another great option is using ratchet straps. They are easy to use and efficient and will make sure that your stroller stays intact and in place inside the trunk. Plus, ratchet straps come in a variety of different types and sizes, so you can get one that will fit your trunk and stroller perfectly.

To a beginner, they might be a little tricky to use. But there are many detailed and simple tutorials available on the internet which will help you get a better understanding of the product.

You can use ratchet straps to hold the stroller upright or lie it down horizontally. There are many anchor points in the car’s trunk which will aid in the process. You just have to tie the straps to these anchor points to properly store the stroller in a trunk.

#3 Non-Slip Mat Under The Stroller

Baby stroller on a non slip mat can prevent stroller from moving around in the trunk – How to keep stroller from sliding around in SUV – Baby Journey parenting blog
Non slip mat can prevent your baby stroller from moving around in the trunk.

If you want a more hand-free kind of way to stabilize your stroller in the trunk, a non-slip mat under your stroller in the trunk might be the way to go. All you’ll need to do is spread the mat inside and you’re done.

This can also be helpful for stuff other than a child’s stroller. When your trunk is loaded, even the smallest of bumps can create noisy havoc, but a non-slip mat will help eliminate that problem.

This method is the perfect answer to how to keep things from sliding around in SUV or any other car’s trunk space.

#4 Stroller Wheel Locks

Stroller wheel locks are useful to keep stroller stationary in the car trunk.

Using stroller wheel locks when traveling is also an option. If you want your stroller to be stationary the whole way, make sure that the wheel lock is engaged.

It doesn’t matter if you’re placing the stroller in the trunk, or the backseat, the wheel lock is a must. To ensure extra security, you can also tie the stroller down using any of the other techniques after engaging the wheel locks.

#5 Cargo Net

Cargo net for holding down stroller in place in car trunk – How to keep stroller from sliding around – Baby Journey parenting blog
A cargo net is a handy tool to protect baby’s stroller and other items in the trunk.

A cargo net is another item a parent must own. You can install it in your trunk and backseat, to hold a stroller or any other loose objects. These nets are made of mesh and are durable enough to hold down any weighted items.

Think of a cargo net as an investment. When the child is young, you can use it to hold down their stroller and baby supplies. When they’re of preschool age, the net can hold a backpack or even a bicycle for trips to the park.

For vacations, a cargo net can be extra useful to hold down any heavy and extra luggage in your car’s trunk space.

What About Double Strollers? How Do You Store A Double Stroller In The Car?

For parents with two young kids, double strollers can be a blessing, but they’re very difficult to store and carry. It is recommended that before you purchase double strollers, make sure that it fits into your trunk.

Measure the measurements of your trunk and keep them in mind while buying double strollers. It’s rare to find one that will be able to fit in your car trunk, but the following are some brands of the best strollers that will come to the rescue:

  1. Baby Jogger City
  2. Baby Sit N’ Stand
  3. Chicco Cortina
  4. Combi Twin Sport

But for smaller cars like Mini Coopers and Nissan Versa, you’ll have to be extra vigilant. It can be extremely hard to find one for cars like these. So remember to take the measurements beforehand and buy a compact double stroller that fits car trunk accordingly.

The first step would be to make sure the stroller is in its most compact form. Fold it up, tie up any straps and loose ends, take off any parts, if possible, and store them separately.

Then, use bungee cords or ratchet straps, or whatever other equipment you use to hold the stroller down and stabilize it. If the stroller doesn’t fit vertically, try placing it horizontally, and vice versa.

It is possible to carry the best double stroller in a car, but it can be a daunting task. Although, one good thing does come out of it.

Due to the double stroller being bulky with less room to roam around, the stroller is easy to keep stable. With a little help from bungee cords, cargo nets, etc., you can make sure your stroller doesn’t slide in the trunk.

Frequently Asked Questions About Storing Stroller In The Car

Can you fit a triple stroller in the car?

Yes, you most definitely can fit a triple stroller in the car, but let me warn you, it won’t be an easy task. So firstly, you can’t fit a triple stroller in all cars. There are certain cars which are too small for the job. But larger cars, like an SUV, can hold a triple stroller.

All you need to do is take the car seats down and lie them vertically on the trunk side. Then open the trunk from behind and push in the triple stroller to place it above the vertically lied-down seats. Push it as further as you can.

Then you can use bungee cords and ratchet straps to hold the baby’s stroller down with the car seats. We’d recommend you to use both devices as a triple stroller is a heavy device and you’ll need all the help you can get.

Can you fit a stroller in a Toyota Corolla?

The Toyota Corolla is a medium-sized car with 13.1 cubic feet of cargo space. Although it is possible to fit a stroller in the car, you should still make sure that the stroller is the right size before making a purchase. For double strollers and triple strollers, fitting them in might be impossible.

Can a stroller fit in a Mini Cooper?

Yes, you can fit a stroller in a Mini Cooper. Even though the car seems tiny in size and it might feel impossible to put a stroller inside, you most definitely can! There’s little chance for a double and triple stroller, but a normal one will fit in effortlessly. Just make sure that it is secured down using bungee cords, cargo nets, or any device of your preference.

Can you fit a stroller in Sedan?

A Sedan is a relatively smaller car. If you buy a stroller smaller than a regular stroller, it will fit in the Sedan easily. But keep in mind to buy a foldable stroller accordingly.

Can you fit a pram in a Mini Countryman?

A Mini Countryman is a compact car, and although it may seem like a stroller won’t fit in it, it can. A regular stroller can easily fit in the trunk, but once the stroller is in, you won’t be able to add more stuff. Also, a double and triple stroller won’t be possible to add.

Conclusion

To wrap up, yes you can fit a stroller in your car and yes there are many ways to keep it from sliding in the trunk. But you will have to be careful and use the right techniques to hold the stroller down.

Hopefully, this answers all your questions. If you have any more queries, leave them in the comments down below. And share it further, so it can help everyone in need.
